Reading more on this, 330k was raised. Mr Barnes accepted 150k, the rest was given to other charities by the woman. I would say she is to blame for hiring the firm in the first place.

If God delivered me some spastic who wanted to raise £300,000 for me for no real reason, who I was not legally obligated to do a thing for or give a penny back to, I'd consider that as God doing me a massive favour.
